Roslindale

A wealthy middleclass neighbourhood named for Roslin, Scotland, and dominated by large family homes on spacious lawns and tree-lined streets. It has grown up as a streetcar suburb of Boston, thanks to the railway line put in just after the Civil War. It tends to be a quiet neigbourhood, with strong community spirit and close ties between the residents.

Roslindale is also the site of one of the first major railway catastrophes. In 1874, a passenger train traveling over Bussey Street when the bridge collapses, killing 23 and injuring hundreds. This event sparked the widespread inspection of rail bridges throughout the US.
